TesterSwap

For new Google Play developer accounts

Twelve testers.
Fourteen days.
Swap, don't beg.

Google won't let a new personal account publish until 12 people have tested the app for 14 days straight. Here, devs in the same spot test each other's apps. You test theirs, they test yours.

How it works

  1. Make an account. Add the Gmail you use on your Android phone. That's the account you'll test with.
  2. Test 3 apps first. Open each one, join its test on Google Play, install it, and tell us you're in.
  3. List your app. Paste your closed-test link. Your app shows up once you've done your 3.
  4. Keep it fair. Every tester you get, you give one back. Stay in each test for 14 days.

The rules

01

Give one, get one

Your app stays on the board while you're testing at least 3 more apps than it has testers, up to 12. To get 12 testers, you test 12 apps.

02

12 seats per app

Each app takes 12 testers, then it's marked full. If someone leaves, the seat opens again.

03

Stay 14 days

A test counts once you've been in for 14 days. Leave early and it doesn't count, and you may drop off the board.

04

Stop helping, get hidden

If you leave tests and fall behind, your app is taken off the board until you catch up. Nothing is deleted.

05

Owners check

App owners see the Gmail each tester used. If yours isn't in their Play Console, they can remove you and the test won't count.

06

Actually open it

Google looks at whether testers use the app. Open the apps you test every few days and leave honest feedback.

Questions

Why do I need this at all?

Personal Play Console accounts made after November 13, 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 days in a row before they can apply for production.

What link do I paste for my app?

In Play Console go to Test and release → Testing → Closed testing → your track → Testers, and copy the "Join on the web" link. It looks like https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.your.app.

How do testers get access to my closed test?

Easiest: set your closed test to use a Google Group that anyone can join, and paste the group link when you list your app. Or use an email list and add the Gmails you see on your app page.

Does it cost anything?

No. You pay with your time: testing other people's apps.
